Must be a R/O Dave, no engineer or elo would ponce around the engineroom dressed like that!

They did for PR photos. I sailed with him but can't remember the name. The electrics are too heavy for an R/O in those days.

he does appear to have a slightly puzzled look on his face, are you sure he's not an RO?
choff   [Feb 18, 2012 at 03:12 AM]
Pretty sure KR. I'm still searching through scraps of the old database for his name.

Any chance of enlarging the two switches. One at lower left with key inserted and the one just above his right hand. Did you sail on Engadine Dave. It reminds me of that ship. If not Engadine it looks like an MCR or a midship switchboard room.

The switch labels say "Tandem Chassis" & "No.2 Pump Chassis (Dymotape-FFO)". I'm fairly certain I acquired the print on Blue Rover.

If it is a promotional shot it would likely be an R/O as the Rovers did not carry a leckie. I believe a couple of them did later on but they were not designated leckies when they first came into service.

Except that I remember him being an Engineer.

The tandem set was a deisel engine connected to a generator one side and a cargo pump the other, used on the Rover boats. I think the control panel was in the MCR hence the uniform?

Mystery solved. "The guy in the PR photo is Mick Bentley holding the relay. Now residing in beautiful British Columbia since 1975. "
